“Mos-A-Man-s Shout”, choreographed by Derek Reid. The Gullah/Geechee people have inhabited the Barrier Islands off the coast of the southern United States since the 1670’s. Brought not by choice, but by force, they were required to develop a part of this country that had been considered unfriendly due to its climate, terrain, and wildlife. In the process of developing agriculture that would help build this country, they became a culture connected to the land and steeped in a spirituality that offered hope for better days .
